The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) protects online service providers from claims of copyright infringement. To qualify for this protection, service providers need to follow certain requirements to satisfy the Act's safe harbor provisions. One of those safe harbor provisions requires service providers to name a designated agent.
Are you a service provider? If you operate a website and allow users, visitors, or customers to post content on that website then likely you are.
If you are a service provider, then you want to make sure and designate an agent. The Copyright Office now requires you to register your designated agent online using the Copyright Office's online platform. For those of you who already have a designated agent, you have until December 31, 2017 to register that agent online. Don't wait for the new year!
